Found among the private papers of:
Frank E. Lucas, 13th Governor of Wyoming
Dated: September 14, 1924 – never published.
They offered me power.
I chose the land.
They promised legacy.
But I saw the cost.
I watched men trade honor for wealth,
Trade rivers for roads,
And truth for titles.
So I put what mattered beyond their reach.
Not to be hidden—
But to be found by someone who still knew the difference.
If you’re reading this,
Then the land still speaks.
Protect it.
Not for politics.
Not for profit.
But because it’s the last honest thing we have.
—F.E. Lucas 1924
